Most of our students at the Nordic Art School come from the Nordic countries; Finland, Sweden and Norway. The school's international atmosphere with guest teachers from all over Europe and the school's large network of contacts as well as Kokkola city's active Artist Residence have however increasingly contributed to students from the rest of the world being attracted to our school.
Nordic Art School has had students from countries such as: Germany, Spain, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Japan, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Bangladesh, the United States and Canada.
Our students usually progress to higher art education at art academies and universities after completed studies at the Nordic Art School. Greetings from earlier students
Barbara Jazbec, Slovenia (studied at NAS 2014-2016)
My studies at the Nordic Art School were one of the best studies. I was there for two years and in those years I learned a lot. From basic things like how to stretch a canvas, printmaking, video editing and so on. The best part of the school is that you get to try different fields of contemporary art. It helps you to find yourself and the things you want to focus on. You learn to develop your individual skills as an artist and you learn how to deal with both positive and negative critique about your work. I made a lot of new friends and met many nice guest teachers. Now I am studying in Tampere University of applied science- Media and Arts, in the Fine Art path and a lot of things that I have learned at NAS are now helping me with my studies.
Martin Åhlin, Sweden (studied at NAS 2014-2015)
I studied one year at The Nordic Art School. The guest teachers really gave me a better understanding of the art world and boosted my confidence in experimenting with new forms of artistic expressions. This in addition with the help from the staff, who all are very up-to-date, helped me to focus and develop my own artistic practise. The access to a studio of your own and well-equipped workshops made it easy to develop a portfolio for the application to the Art Acdemy. The studies at the Nordic art school made a great impact on me and now I am studying at the Art Academy in Umeå, Sweden.
